A Player with a Bad Attitude

A player with a bad attitude can affect a wide variety of things, including the team’s feelings, success, and motivation. Believe it or not, but a player will be remembered for their poor attitude rather than their softball skills. So are you a player with a bad attitude?

Shake it off. When you make an error in the field or the play does not go your way, just try to brush it off. Take some deep breaths or use the mistake as your motivation to fuel your performance. If you see someone else struggling with this, find what puts a smile on her face! I know cracking jokes with my teammates always helps.

Talk with a coach. Sometimes speaking with someone who has been in your shoes can help. They will be able assess the situation to the best of their ability. If a player’s bad attitude bothers you on the field, also speak with a coach. A team should not have to deal with the frustration of another player. Softball is suppose to be fun!

Take the opportunity. Self-evaluating can be difficult; take it as an opportunity to better yourself. Controlling a situation shows maturity and responsibility, and coaches love to see that. When you are thinking about the problem and how it affects you, take a moment to consider how it might benefit you as well. The answer may not be obvious and may not come right away, but asking this question can shift your mindset to still get something valuable from the experience. If you are on the reverse side, help the bad attitude player out instead; it is a great leadership opportunity.
