Our Story
The non-profit league started as a slowpitch organization with only one field and no lights. Now 30 years later, the league offers softball opportunities for local communities at Brooklawn Park located in New Bedford, Massachusetts. There are three softball fields that were recently updated two summers ago including two scoreboards and lights that hover over the field for every softball girls favorite, night games. Today the league consist of 28 teams in six divisions with approximately 400 girls from the ages of 5-18, with any level of experiences.
The league is known for their great sportsmanship from their players, and the numerous volunteers, coaches, and parents who have given so much of their time to better the league. Baystate Girls Softball is not only an opportunity but a home. It is a place where you develop last longing friendships, create extraordinary memories, and teaches the values of discipline and leadership.
The league host tournaments for travel teams located in New England, to offer a more competitive game. The leagues three Baystate Blitz travel teams, one for each age group, participates in these tournaments winning championships, including the 2014 State Championship. The tournaments bring the girls on the road and a chance to compete against other softball teams who have developed outstanding skills and abilities. Tryouts for the Baystate Blitz are hosted at the end of every season so the teams can practice throughout the year before the start of the season.
The league also offers a junior official program, for players who wish to umpire the 10 and under division in hopes to became an American Association Umpire. The JO program is a great way to give back to the program.
At the end of every season, the Bay State Girls Softball League gives scholarships to its eligible athletes that are going off to college. The amounts are based on years in the league and levels achieved. Every kid will get a scholarship regardless as long as they are playing and going to an accredited school.
The Baystate Girls Softball League is an amazing opportunity for young girls around the community who wish to be involved in athletics while creating friendships. The volunteers involved are there for the players best interest and does what it takes to make sure all players get the most out of their softball careers.
